Orthodox Sunday School Association of the East (OSSAE)

The Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church lays great emphasis and importance on educating children with the values of Christian life, the contents of the Holy Bible and the Church history. The Sunday School Samajam started functioning in 1931 with the appointment of PuthencavuGeevarghese Mar Philexinos as its President and Fr. K. David as the General Secretary. On 15 October 1964 it was rejuvenated to receive its present form as "Orthodox Sunday School Association of the East" (OSSAE). Sunday School units operate in the Orthodox Churches both within and outside Kerala.

This spiritual organization functions in all the parishes of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church throughout the world. It takes care of the spiritual nurturing, by bringing them up in the knowledge and fellowship of Jesus Christ and His Church. The classes are conducted in Malayalam, English and other regional languages for better understanding of students. It has a separate wing for the parishes outside Kerala, known as OSSAE-OKR (Outside Kerala Region).

'OSSAE Mayur Vihar Phase-3' comes under Delhi Diocese headed by our Metropolitan His Grace Dr.Youhanon Mar Demetrios . Our Sunday School with around 100 students follows OSSAE - OKR syllabi and exams are conducted every year as per schedule. We follow a curriculum, jointly prepared and published by the Oriental Orthodox Churches which is revised from time to time. The curriculum includes study of Old Testament, New Testament, religious lessons and Church history, Writings of Fathers, Doctrines and Christian Hymns. The students are divided into various classes from Nursery to the 12th based on age. Board exams are held at OKR level for class X and XII. Certificates are issued from OSSAE-OKR office for students clearing the board exams.

General Assembly and Classes are held after the Holy Qurbana, every Sunday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 NOON.

The overall development of students is looked after by a group of young, energetic and self-motivated teachers who interact closely with students and play a major role in their overall development.

Annual Events:

Unit Level Cultural Competition: Students show case their talents by taking part in various competitions like Solo & group Song, Elocution, Essay writing and Quiz Competitions etc

OVBS - Orthodox Vacation Bible Studies: The vacation Bible School conducted during the winter holidays (OVBS) is a very vibrant wing of the O.S.S.A.E. OKR. They publish separate text books, devotional materials, song books and CDs for the OVBS every year.

Orthodox Faith Fest - Annual Camp: Students from our unit participate in annual 2 day camp organized at diocese level every year.
