In the year 2001, H. G. Job Mar Philoxenos got an inspiration from the Almighty God, for the need of a Church in Mayur Vihar Phase-3 as more than 100 Orthodox Christian families were residing in the locality. His Grace instructed Rev. Fr. K. J. Jacob, the Vicar of St. Johns Orthodox Church, Mayur Vihar Phase-I to convene the members of "St. George Prayer Group" to form a Church Society.

The Feast of St. James was celebrated at Ryan International School, Mayur Vihar Phase-3 as the first Parish Perunnal. The Holy Qurbana was celebrated by H. G. Job Mar Philoxenos, Delhi Orthodox Diocesan Metropolitan. His Grace declared it as an Independent Congregation in the name of "ST. JAMES" as our "PATRON SAINT". His Grace also appointed Rev. Fr. K. J. Jacob as its first Vicar. The name of the church was blessed by His Grace as "ST. JAMES ORTHODOX CHURCH". His Grace also approached Dr. A. F. Pinto, Founder and Chairman of Ryan International School to allow us to conduct Sunday Service in the School. Dr. A. F. Pinto had given permission to celebrate our service on all Sundays and special occasions.
Registration of St. James Orthodox Church Society under the "SOCIETIES REGISTRATION ACT-XXI of 1860", with the Registrar of Societies, Govt. of NCT of Delhi.
Applied for plot with Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

The foundation stone for the Church was blessed by the Diocesan Metropolitan, H. G. Job Mar Philoxenos and laid by Diocesan Secretary, Very Rev. M. S. Skariah Remban on February 8.
Rev. Fr. George Varghese took the charge as Vicar of the Church. The Plan and drawings of the Church were approved by the Planning Department of DDA. The construction work commenced.
Official Church Website was launched by Diocesan Secretary, Very Rev. M. S. Skariah Remban on Sunday, October 16. The Consecration of the Church was held on October 22 & 23. H. H. Baselios Marthoma Paulose II, The Catholicos of the East and The Malankara Metropolitan was the Chief Celebrant along with H. G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Demetrios, Delhi Diocesan Metropolitan, H. G. Dr. Joshua Mar Nicodimos, Nilackal Diocesan Metropolitan and H. G. Dr. Zacharia Mar Aprem, Adoor-Kadampanad Diocesan Metropolitan.
St. James Orthodox Church, Mayur Vihar Phase-3, Delhi is the first ever church in the name of "St. James The Greater" in the Indian Orthodox Church.

The Diocesan Secretary,Very Rev. M. S. Skariah Ramban blessed and laid the Foundation stone for Parsonage on Monday, 15th August, 2016 after the Holy Qurbana on the of Feast of Assumption of St. Mary.
The Diocesan Metropolitan, H.G. Dr. Yuhanon Mar Demetrios consecrated the parsonage which is constructed on the 3rd Floor of Church Building on Sunday, 11th December, 2016 after the Evening Prayer.
Consecration of Newly constructed Portico was held on 15th August 2017, Tuesday (Assumption of St. Mary) after the Holy Qurbana.
